You can't see it, taste it or smell it, but this radioactive gas is the second-leading cause of lung cancer (after smoking) and causes up to 22,000 lung cancer deaths each year. Nearly one out of every 15 homes in the USA has elevated radon levels.
Radon is everywhere and you are almost always breathing some in. But with today's homes being tighter than ever to save on energy costs, the radon below your home often becomes concentrated in your home. The risk then becomes high enough that you and your family have a much greater chance of getting lung cancer.
The State of Maine DHHS and the Federal EPA both recommend testing all homes. The State requires testing of all tenant occupied dwellings. The State requires that a certified radon testing company be used for all real estate transactions. Perkins Home Services, LLC is certified through the State and through the federal NEHA/NRPP programs.
If you are buying a home, put your worries aside by having the home tested for radon. If the results are positive, we can provide you and/or the seller with a list of preferred mitigation specialists to prevent you from being overexposed to radon gas.
Ask for a radon test as part of your home inspection.
